the great wall has a history of over twenty centuries. the first part of it was built during the spring and autumn period. during the warring states period， more walls were put up to defend the borders of the different kingdoms. it was during the qin dynasty that the kingdom of qin united the dif ferent parts into one empire. to keep the enemy out of his empire， emperor qin shi huang had all the walls joined up. thus， the great wall came into being.
the great wall is wide enough at the top for five horses or ten men to walk side by side. along the wall are watchtowers， where soldiers used to keep watch. fires were lit on the the towers as a warning when the enemy came.
it was very difficult to build such a wall in the ancient days without any modern machines. all the work was done by hand. thousands of men died and were buried under the wall they built. the great wall was made not only of stone and earth， but of the flesh and blood of millions of men.

一大早我们跟着导游来到了长城脚下，我急切地寻找着毛主席的题词石碑，很快就找到了，我自豪地站在石碑旁边，留下了照片。在长城脚下放眼望去，只见一片郁郁葱葱的丛林，远处连绵起伏的山峦一层层，一座座，非常漂亮！弯弯曲曲的城墙像一条巨龙盘旋在高山之中，我心想：这么高怎么爬啊？妈妈在一旁为我打气：“你要像毛爷爷那样，坚持到底，勇攀高峰！”听了这话，我信心十足！
来到了八达岭，往远处看，长城曲折蜿蜒，每隔一截就能看到一座烽火台耸立在城墙之间，许许多多的烽火台连成一条，置身其中，我兴奋地张开双臂，大声呼喊。第八层烽火台是最高的一座，我拉着爸爸妈妈往上走，这段路程比想象中的要难很多，因为斜坡有六七十度，走上去非常吃力，台阶更难走，每级台阶都异常的高，跨上去一级，大腿都会又酸又疼，还没走几级就满头大汗，气喘吁吁，在妈妈的鼓励下，我一步步坚持到底，终于站在了最高峰俯视群山，美景尽收眼底，那一刻，我放声大叫，快乐的心情无法用文字表达！

那天，在往八达岭的路上下起了，我非常懊恼和担心：下雨了，爬长城的计划不就泡汤了？妈妈安慰我：雨中爬长城更有诗意。真幸运，车到长城雨也停了。原本炎热的天变得凉爽了。
我们坐滑车穿过四个比较陡的城台，然后开始步行。导游一声令下，开始了。起初我遥遥领先于妈妈，渐渐走不动了。特别在斜坡处可累了，走又走不快，跑又跑不动。接下来的路程是爬台阶，每个台阶约四十公分高，每迈一步都很吃力。不到一半路程我已累得上气不接下气。妈妈鼓励我：加油！与其他小比一比，我的小小男子汉别让人看扁了。妈妈拉着我，不时给我鼓气。在我的坚持下，终于爬到了长城的最高处。那儿叫好汉坡，海拔888米，竖有一块碑，碑上有毛主席题词：不到长城非好汉。我和妈妈在好汉坡碑前留了影。

我连忙跳下车，直冲上八达岭。我轻轻地抚摸着长城巨大的砖石，想到，刚才还是想象中的长城，现在就呈现在眼前。不，应该说比我想象中的长城更长，好象和天边相连着。
我登上了一座烽火台，举目远眺，远处是一望无际的山脉，连绵起伏，翠绿的树林仿佛是巨大的屏障。
穿过烽火台，顺着城墙走向八达岭的制高点。每个城垛都有矛眼、箭孔和炮口。这都是古代的士兵用来打仗和监视敌人的洞口。越向高处，坡就越陡，陡得让人可怕，我也越累了，气喘吁吁，正想停下来休息。这时，我听见有人喊：“加油啊!快到顶峰了。”峰顶上的那个好汉坡深深地吸引着我，我喝了几口水，在同伴的鼓励下继续往上爬，终于到了顶峰了，我不由得大叫起来：“我是好汉啦，我是好汉啦!”
